Give and Receive.....A Way to Help Each Other

webbtech started this conversation

Hi Everybody,

I have an idea, there are many in here that have children, how about a clothes and small item exchange? People with older children can trade their nice used clothes for something that they need. Clothes are expensive for kids. Maybe someone has a teenager and a baby, and someone else has a pre-teen and a toddler, you could exchange clothing. A good rule of thumb when gving clothes, if it is something that you would not let your child wear because of rips or stains, then do not send it to others.

Maybe someone needs a blender or handmixer, maybe someone else has an extra but needs silverware or cookie pans. You can make an exchange. I thought this might be helpful to people in need, because even if you are in need you may have something that someone else needs.

It is kind of an old concept, but I have not seen it in the blogs. Of course just donating is always fine too. This type of exchange program can help you to help yourself and others!

 Any thoughts?

I saw something on tv regarding this same subject just the other day. Unfortunately I did not right down the web address incorrectly. It sounded really cool. You signup for free find people to swap with each sending @ 5-7 outfits via US mail. They have a side bar with each members rating which most are favorable to the high end. They also have a $30 membership free for people who want to swap items that are new and still have tags on them. It sounds great but have not been able to locate the correct website.

I absolutely love it.  Recently we bought a new car an didnt want to be paying for insurance on a car we didnt need. so we freecycled it. the car was 10 years old, not beautiful but runs fine. and the young woman who got it will get pleanty of use from it. I know we made a difference to her life.   I wish everyone knew about Freecycle and how great it really is. and what most people dont realize it that freecycle is in just about every community and easy to find byu simply googling the name freecycle.

in response to Cryz...   Cryz's that great you can also check out the freecycle for your area there is always someone that can use something on freecycle believe me I gave away about 500 bricks and they went fast.. I love freecycle it allows me to help someone that may not be able to afford the item and also keep it out of the landfills.

I think that's a great idea.  We moved to California a few weeks ago, 26' truck of stuff. Our new place doesn't have a basement or garage to store all our extra stuff. And going through it we now realize how much stuff we have that is no longer useful to us but is still in excellent condition for someone else.  We have no way to getting rid of it except to toss it into our community trash.  We've been setting it beside hoping there is another family that can use it.  So far our table was taken.  I think your idea could really help two people (families) and save people money. In these tight times.   Anyway, that's my two cents.  I hope it catches on I'm in... I have a sister 26 yrs & I'm 20 yrs and brother 4 yrs.  & mom old, so if you need anything I probably have it... boxed some where. lol.  :-)

i want to help wards who are in wrongful guardianships.

i was one and someone helped me, i want to do the same.

i would give them the money they so desperately need.

that the court, guardians and lawyers take and waste on

needless surety bonds and absurd legal fees.

Hi,

That is a great idea! My kids are grown, but I have granddaughters, and stuff of my own and my husbands that I can give. I gave all of my kids stuff away to families on here at Christmas. I will help you if you want a hand.

This is so wild. A friend of mine and I were just talking about creating something like this online.  It would be something like www.swaptree.com yet it would be children clothing and toys, because like myself I have small children and plenty of toys that they are growing out of.  I take really good care of my items and would love to trade off things they could use as they grow.  I always go to savers and goodwill but I would love to be able to open a online business just for trade to bring people in need together especially the way the economy is right now.  If no one beats me to it, I'm here to let you know, I AM WORKING HARD ON CREATING THIS!!!! LOL

I feel the same as mom42cuties. I have always been a caring person.  When I was 16 found a family of 8 that was severely struggling. I knew I wouldn't be able to do much, but I started a fundraiser at my high school and ended up raising $600.  I bought them all christmas presents and made them fleece blankets and donated some things. But you are totally right. I still don't regret helping out even if I don't receive help. It's just a great and rewarding feeling to know you can help somebody.

I got screwed by i person i know.  That will not stop from from helping anyone else in need.  The only way to get help is to ask, and see who is willing to help.

Hi,

It is not stupid it just makes you a better person. I feel that we are here on this earth and that we should help each other. If everyone helped everyone think of how much better this world would be. If I see someone in need it affects me and I have to help if I can. That is being a good, caring person, and even if they do not return the favor at least you know you did the right thing.

yeah i believe that way too...I don't have much but try to share what I have...the only bad thing is people usually use me to help themselves and then when I am in need and they are doing better than before they blow me off...I still try though...maybe that's stupid but I don't know how else to be

Hi,

I think you are right. We all have something to give even if it is just our time. I try to find deals on things so I can help people out. I need money for college and that is harder to come by. Atleast I can try to help others, even if I cannot get help. It makes me feel good.

I think you have a great idea...if more people helped each other then little to no people would have to ever do without
